ATLANTA, GA – July 15, 2026 – SpaceWorks Enterprises, Inc. (SEI) is proud to announce the successful conclusion of its Phase II Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract with the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) and the subsequent award of a one-year Phase II Option. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the development of Kingfisher, a cutting-edge 6-degree-of-freedom aerodynamic solver and visualization tool for weapons separation evaluation.
During the Phase II effort, SpaceWorks delivered a highly capable and versatile software tool that enables precise simulation of store trajectories and safe separation from aircraft. Kingfisher supports any aircraft and store configuration, including bombs, missiles, and fuel tanks, provided a CAD model is available. The tool also incorporates a miss-distance calculator to determine the closest distance between aircraft and stores, ensuring safety and reliability in critical mission scenarios.
A key highlight of the Phase II development was the integration of Unreal® Engine as the graphics front-end, providing users with an intuitive and immersive visualization experience. Additionally, SpaceWorks developed constrained motion use cases to represent various mounting and launching equipment, further enhancing the tool’s flexibility and applicability. Kingfisher’s unmatched accuracy and adaptability make it a game-changer for weapons separation analysis, offering a robust solution for a wide range of mission scenarios.
The newly awarded Phase II Option will focus on further enhancing Kingfisher’s capabilities. This includes the development of a user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) to improve the customer experience and the incorporation of final technical features to complete the tool’s functionality. Once these enhancements are implemented, Kingfisher is expected to become the standard modeling and simulation tool for the U.S. Navy to support certification processes.
